Quick reference for low carb: eat this and avoid that

I’m often asked what to eat on a low carb eating plan. Here you go!

Eat this:

Eggs

Meat - beef, lamb, chicken, pork

Bacon

Fish

Vegetable that grow above ground (cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, zucchini, eggplant, olives, spinach, mushrooms, cucumber, lettuce, avocado, onions, peppers, tomatoes. 

Berries- strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries

Dairy - full fat milk, cream, butter, cheese, Greek yogurt

Beverages- water, coffee, tea, broth

Nuts


Cook with:

olive oil, coconut oil, butter


Avoid:


Sugar, soft drinks, candy, juice, sports drinks, chocolate, cakes, pastries, ice cream

Breakfast cereal

Bread

Rice

Potatoes, beets, carrots and starchy vegetables 

Pasta

Margarine

Beans and legumes

Fruit except berries

Beer



Okay for occasional treat:

Dry red or white wines, spirits

Chocolate Greater than 70% cocoa
