What is your why?
The start of the year feels like the ultimate fresh start, right?
While most of our goal setting practices are practical and focused on numbers, I think it is equally important to focus on the more abstract aspects of motivation and the journey toward reaching milestones.
One of the best tools to have in your toolbox is a solid grasp on why you want to achieve these goals in the first place. I call this finding your why.
Take a moment to sit down with a pen and paper and write down all of the things that are most important to you in life. How does your health help or hinder you enjoying those things?
For me, my why is actually two things, my kids! When they were young, we hiked in our hometown often, and they carried this love of the outdoors into adulthood.
What motivates me to maintain a healthy lifestyle is my ability to keep being active with my children.
I think this practice is so important, I actually made it a whole chapter in my Ebook. (If you haven’t read it yet, it is delivered free to your inbox if you sign up for my newsletter!)
Try it out for yourself, and when you are feeling discouraged or unmotivated, remind yourself of this why to put it all back into context.
